Binder (1810-1876) was a German academic and theologian. "While still a student, he published his first translations of Latin classics. In 1829 and 1831 his German versions of Odes of Horace appeared "in the verse masses of the original." Then followed a long pause. But from the 1850s onwards he published numerous translations: Virgil (agriculture, Aeneid), Lucretius (didactic poem On the Nature of Things), Theognis (elegies, from Greek), Properz (elegies); Poems by Tibullus "in the manner of the original", twelve volumes of mostly about a hundred pages with the comedies of Plautus, the characters of Theophrastus, fables of Aesop, etc. For the twelve years between 1854 and 1866, Binder can be described as a full-time translator" (at https://uelex[.]de/uebersetzer/binder[-]wilhelm). All of his translations went through several editions, many of which were included in the "Langenscheidt Library of all Greek and Roman Classics in Newer German Model Translations" in the 1870s and 1880s and were reprinted several times in this book series.
