Events in the Taeping rebellion ... with monograph, introduction, and notes by A. Egmont Hake

London: W. H. Allen and Co. Ltd., 1891. First edition, 8vo, pp. [8], 531, [1]; frontispiece, plate, and color folding map; rebound in modern brown leather with marbled paper-covered slipcase; chipping to upper free endpaper and a couple leaves, not affecting text; glue spots on endpapers from the rebind; map split at folds and with light chipping in the margins; the binding is nice enough (but for the glue spots) and the text is clean but the map is on the fragile side. Charles George Gordon, aka Chinese Gordon, was an instrumental and popular British officer during the Taiping Rebellion, where he led his Ever Victorious Army in ultimately crushing the Taiping rebels. This is an edited transcription of his own journal kept during his campaign. Cordier p. 651. Item #72689
