Arti oeang didalam soesoenan negara. Sekitar pengeloearan oeang Repoeblik Indonesia = [The meaning of money in the structure of the state. On the issuing of the money of the Republic of Indonesia]

Siantar, [East Sumatra]: Djabatan Penerangan N.R.I. Soematera Timoer, 1946. First edition, 7¾" x 5½" (20x 14 cm); pp. 16; text in Indonesian; original tan wrappers printed in red; wrappers a bit spotted and slightly stained, text toned, all else very good. Although not otherwise stated, this is from the library of Professor Cyril Skinner (1924-1986) first Chair of Indonesian Languages at Monash University in the 1960s, and specialist in Malay and Thai literature. Rare pamphlet issued in Siantar in 1946 by the Information Department of the Republic of Indonesia, East Sumatra. Written in the immediate aftermath of Indonesian independence, the pamphlet explains the meaning and function of money within the state, with particular reference to the issue of Oeang Repoeblik Indonesia, the new Republican currency. ORI was not simply a monetary instrument but a visible assertion of Indonesian sovereignty during the Revolution, replacing the confusion of Japanese occupation currency, Dutch colonial issues, and NICA money with a ligitimate currency backed by the Republic of Indonesia itself. One of the earliest publications of Soemitro Djojohadikoesoemo (1917-2001), considered "the father of modern Indonesdian economists," a significant revolutionary-period publication on money, sovereignty, and state formation. His academic dissertation aside (Het volkscredietwezen in de Depressie [= The People's Credit System During the Depression], Haarlem, 1943, this appears to be his first book. Cornell only in OCLC.
